 CONTRIBUTING TO THE PUBLIC DIALOGUE

U.S. bishops reaffirm forming consciences for faithful citizenship as guiding teaching in political life

In advance of the 2012 elections, the U.S. bishops have reaffirmed their 2007 document, "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship," in this coming election cycle and beyond, as the “continuing teaching of our bishops’ conference and our guidance for Catholics in the exercise of their rights and duties as participants in our democracy,” they said. Link to the website and document.

 A letter from Bishop Soto:

"The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced recently that almost all employers, including Catholic employers, will be forced to offer their employees' health coverage that includes sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception. Almost all health insurers will be forced to include those "services" in the health policies they write. And almost all individuals will be forced to buy that coverage as part of their policies."       Scrip has arrived!
The St. Joseph Marello Parish Marian Guild presents a scrip program to benefit our church. You can now use your personal household shopping to help support St. Joseph Marello Parish by buying gas, groceries, clothing, books, movies and restaurant meals just like you do now. The only difference is that you make these purchases with gift cards you purchase from the Scrip Program. You pay the face value for the gift card and redeem them for the full face value when you do your everyday shopping. Each purchase you make with a Scrip gift card will earn the parish a rebate of 1% to 20%. We have gift cards for over 100 local businesses. We will take orders on a weekly basis; download the order form below. Attach your check for the full amount made out to St. Joseph Marello Parish. Return your order form and payment no later than Sunday, April 29. Return your form to the parish office, drop it in the church mailbox, drop it in the offertory basket at Sunday Masses or you can stop by the Scrip Office (located in the church hallway just off the lobby) which will be open every Sunday after 8:30am Mass and before 10:30am Mass. Your gift cards will be ready for pickup in the parish office during regular office hours beginning Thursday, May 3, or in the Scrip Office on Sunday, May 6. Gift orders from this order will be here in plenty of time for Mother’s Day gift giving! We are very excited to offer this program to our parish families and hope you will find it a convenient way to contribute to the church while meeting your own personal needs. Questions? Call the parish office at your convenience. Thank you!

Mount St. Joseph Seminary

Mount St. Joseph is well known to all our parishioners and friends. Located at 6530 Wells Avenue in Loomis (and the home of the Marello Youth Retreat Center), it is where future priests and brothers of the Oblates of St. Joseph prepare for ministry in the Church. Visit their website at mountstjoseph.org to view their calendar of events, inclucing Mass times.

Pray for Vocations ... Let us pray daily that the Lord will send His holy Church many vocations, men and women who will devote their entire life to the worship of the Lord and to the service of His holy people as priests, brothers and sisters. Pray that all those called will be able to discern the Lord's will for them and then have the courage to follow with love and zeal. Pray for vocations from our parish!
